Scared Scar: tattoo care unlike anyone else's

Posted by Solutat · Brand Profile

In tattooing, certain products end up all looking alike. And then there are those you recognize immediately. Scared Scar belongs to this second category: a small French brand that manufactures its aftercare products in the Drôme region, with an artisanal approach, intentionally crafted formulas, and textures that break the mold. Balm, vegan cream, or petroleum jelly foam: behind every product, there is above all a very practical consideration of its use.

Scared Scar, a small French brand rooted in tattooing

Scared Scar is based in the Drôme region and has been developing skincare products for the tattoo world for over twelve years. You can also discover the brand's world on its Scared Scar official website. The brand works with a deliberately artisanal approach and favors organic ingredients as well as local producers for a significant portion of its raw materials.

What matters to us at Solutat isn’t just that a product is made in France. It’s above all the consistency between how it’s conceived, its composition, and how it’s actually used. In a tattoo studio, a good product needs more than just a pretty label: it must be easy to understand, practical to use, and enjoyable for both the person getting tattooed and the tattoo artist.

Textures also designed to be practical

When talking about treatments or products used during a session, the ingredients obviously matter. But in practice, texture also matters enormously: the way the product is scooped out, spreads, behaves on the skin, and the amount needed for each use.

This is precisely where the Scared Scar range becomes interesting. The three products do not try to offer the same thing in three different forms. The Vaseline mousse Scared Scar accompanies the tattoo session, while the Sacred Scar Care Balm and the vegan skin care cream offer two different textures for aftercare.

A short range, but in which each texture serves a different purpose: during the session, after the tattoo, or when you are simply looking for something lighter to apply.

Vaseline foam: the product you want to look at twice

This is probably the most unexpected product from Scared Scar. We know tattoo petroleum jelly in its classic form. Here, it takes on the appearance of a light foam, almost like whipped cream.

But the original side doesn't just serve to catch the eye. This vegetable petroleum jelly for tattoos is composed of only three ingredients: deodorized organic shea butter, organic sesame vegetable oil, and vitamin E.

It is vegan, neutral, and fragrance-free. It is a simple detail, but one that is appreciated during a session: no need to add an extra scent to an environment where cleaning products, soaps, inks, and other supplies are already mixed.

The economic aspect is also interesting for professional use. Scared Scar indicates that about two grams are enough for a medium-sized tattoo and that a 110-gram jar can be used to make around fifty medium tattoos.

And yes, at first glance, one might almost mistake it for a dessert. But no: this is still not a yogurt.

The Scared Scar balm: a little product goes a long way

After tattooing, Scared Scar offers a different approach with its balm. Here, we intentionally move away from the cream texture for a much more concentrated treatment.

Its water-free texture means a small amount is enough for each application. Upon contact with the skin, the balm melts slightly, making it easy to spread without needing to layer more.

That is precisely an interesting point when discovering this type of product: with a concentrated balm, the reflex to want to apply a lot is not necessarily the right one. The advantage lies instead in a reduced quantity, well spread over the area.

The Scared Scar Healing Balm available on Solutat is available in particular in a small 10-gram format, easy to carry and particularly suited for small tattoos or touch-ups.

A vegan cream for those who prefer a lighter texture

Not everyone appreciates rich textures or essential oils. Scared Scar has therefore developed a skincare cream different from its balm: vegan, beeswax-free, and essential oil-free.

Its cream texture is lighter and easier to spread. This is particularly appealing on large areas or simply for people who prefer this type of feel over that of a balm.

And here again, the question of odor was taken into account. Unlike petroleum jelly foam, which is neutral and unscented, the cream has a very light natural scent. Scared Scar specifies that it disappears within a few minutes after application.

The vegan scar care cream Scared Scar thus providing an alternative to the balm with a different texture and formulation, without essential oils.

Three products, three different moments

What we like about this range is precisely that it remains clear. There is no need to multiply the number of references to give the impression of having a choice.

Why Scared Scar Belongs on Solutat

Solutat was created to allow tattoo professionals to buy and sell equipment among themselves—but that’s not all. The idea is also to provide a platform for manufacturers, builders, artisans, and small brands that offer products truly relevant to the industry.

We do not want to find the exact same references and brands everywhere. A specialized platform can also serve to discover different products, manufactured on a different scale and conceived by people who truly know the world in which they will be used.

Scared Scar fits this idea quite well. It's not a huge product line, and that's precisely not what we're interested in. Three products can be enough when each has a clear function, an identifiable texture, and a true logic of use.

That’s also why Scared Scar is one of the first designer brands we’ve chosen to feature on Solutat.
